On July 1st, FPS GOLD’s parent company, DHI Computing Service, Inc., proudly celebrated its 70th anniversary. To honor this significant milestone, DHI hosted a special event for its employees, attended by Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi and U.S. Representative John Curtis.
Reaching a 70-year anniversary is a remarkable achievement. In a business landscape where few companies reach the five-year mark, DHI's longevity is a testament to its resilience and success. The Legacy of DHI Computing Service
DHI was established in 1954 by Bliss H. Crandall, pioneering as the first data processor between Chicago and San Francisco. It started as a family business in the basement of the Crandall home in Logan, Utah, where Bliss Crandall (then the assistant director of the Statistical Laboratory at Utah State University) collaborated with Lyman Rich to develop a groundbreaking system for automating dairy management records using IBM punch card equipment. This innovative solution quickly gained popularity in the dairy industry, making DHI the premier choice for dairy record processing nationwide.
In 1955, DHI relocated to Provo, Utah, and earned the reputation of “Utah Valley’s original high-tech company.” By 1964, DHI’s expertise attracted interest from the banking industry, leading to the creation of FPS GOLD, its first financial processing division. This expansion continued with the creation of PCIS GOLD, following a request for medical data services from a Salt Lake City clinic. In 2005, DHI expanded further by adding GOLDPoint Systems, catering to the growing consumer finance sector.
Today, as we celebrate 70 years of innovation, we honor the pioneering spirit that started it all and look forward to a future filled with continued growth and success.
